Steroid boleh menyebabkan hypernatremia, hypokalemia, cecair penyimpanan, dan ketinggian dalam tekanan darah. Ini mineralocorticoid kesan yang paling penting dengan fludrocortisone, diikuti oleh hidrokortison dan cortisone, kemudian oleh prednisone dan prednisolone. Baki steroid, betamethasone, dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, dan triamcinolone, ada sedikit mineralocorticoid aktiviti. Bagaimanapun, dos besar apa-apa kortikosteroid boleh menunjukkan kesan-kesan ini, terutama jika diberikan untuk lebih lama daripada tempoh yang singkat.
