Steroid boleh menyebabkan peptik maag penyakit dan pencernaan (GI) pendarahan, biasanya ketika diberikan dalam dos yang tinggi atau untuk tempoh yang lama. Bagaimanapun, walaupun konvensional dos boleh memburukkan lagi gejala pada pasien dengan sejarah peptik borok. Ditangguhkan penyembuhan luka juga telah dilaporkan. Terapi dengan steroid harus dielakkan atau diberikan berhati-hati pesakit aktif atau terpendam peptik borok atau faktor risiko lain untuk GI pendarahan. Beberapa doktor menyarankan menggunakan profilaktik antasid atau H2-musuh di antara waktu makan ketika dos besar steroid yang perlu.
